Julian Armitstead

Playwright - Storyteller

About

I’m an Oxford based playwright, storyteller and teacher. I write plays, with a particular interest in contemporary social issues.

My best known work is “After the Accident”, a play about Restorative Justice. Published by

Methuen and commissioned by BBC Radio R4 in a production starring Jack O’Connell and

Lia Williams, it won Amnesty International’s “Protect the Human” award in 2008.

I also write and tell children’s stories. My picture books “The Runaway Clothes” and “Follow that Scent!” are now available to buy in my online shop as well as Blackwell’s, Daunt Books and other good bookstores! As a storyteller, I work across libraries and schools, and was for several years a writer in residence in a large midlands prison.

I’m also warden at St. Mary & St. Nicholas church in Littlemore, where my wife is vicar.

I hold a PGCE from the London Institute of Education, a post-graduate certificate in acting from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and a degree in Classics from Cambridge University.

And I’m represented as a playwright by Micheline Steinberg Associates:  info@steinplays.com
